Showcase Your Cutline Website

May 18th, 2007 · 166 Comments

The community that Chris created when he developed the Cutline theme is ever-growing. Since it is one of the most popular WordPress themes around, I thought it would be fun to add a Showcase page, where we will have a list of current sites using the Cutline theme.

How can you get your site listed? Simple. Leave a comment on this post, with the link title/url (and a brief description) you want and we will add it.

Please note that I will personally be reviewing every link that is submitted. Which means if you are spamming, or link dropping, you will be banned from this site and I’ll zap your hard drive from where I am sitting.

Once I add your link, I will delete the comment you left. This is the best way for me to keep track of the ones I’ve reviewed and added.

Now submit your link so you can strut your Cutline stuff!

* Bear with me as I try to keep up with the overwhelming amount of people leaving their links! I promise to add yours to the list!

Do you like this article? Submit it to Blogosphere News!

    Found this via directbygrid.com:

    http://www.connorwilson.com/

Sorry for being anonymous, but the website I’m referring has no direct relationship to me.

    A little back story:
I actually found Cutline theme from designbygrid.com, where one website presented in their showcase stands out. I followed it and found the footer “Powered by Cutline and Wordpress”. Even a few good minutes after I opened the cutline website, I couldn’t really tell what’s cutline all about since it doesn’t have direct resemblance to wilson’s blog; I don’t completely like serif font — wilson’s blog is sans-serif. Initially I thought it’s a kind of engine/plugin for wordpress.

Short story, I downloaded cutline and eventually found that it’s been used everywhere and one of the most popular theme in wordpress.com.

Hullo, I just changed over from Connections Reloaded to Cutline 1.1 for this shownotes/blog/podcast site for folks refining their medical podcasts: http://www.PodcastingForMedicalProfessionals.com

I changed the color of the posts’ title headings, decreased the line thickness between the sidebar entries to keep eyes LEFT, and left justified the main title; changed the color of the text a bit for hovering, etc.

I’m the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada in Newmarket-Aurora, Ontario.

My blog, www.hubbers.ca, uses Cutline as I was looking for a theme that was very clean looking, that was strictly standards based so that it would accessible for visually impaired persons, and that I could tweak with my own looks.

I recently lost many of the tweaks when I simultaneously changed hosts, upgraded Wordpress, and then upgraded to the new Cutline version. Won’t do that again!

Certain features are still not working properly, but I may have to get a real programmer to help me out.

Hello - I’m just bringing my blog up using Cutline. Once I get it in slightly better shape I’d like to submit. I have one thing that’s driving me crazy - I’m trying to change all the instances of “read more” that follows posts. I want to change the text to something more SEO specific. I have located most of the places I need to change except for the page that comes up when a user clicks on a tag. It’s the page that is titled “Entries Tagged As blahblah”. The posts on that page still have the “read more” after them and I can’t find where to make the change. Can anyone help? Thanks very much for any insight.

The Daily Nightmare is a “cheery little blog about fear” ranging from reviews of horror movies to rants about political fear-mongering but focusing, generally speaking on nightmares of average folks. The ‘Nightmare runs on Cutline and I love the clear look and feel of the theme. As a part-time blogger/full-time insomniac I appreciate how intelligible the theme is especially since I’m a newcomer to all the technical details of blogging. Thanks, again!

My wife and I are documenting our gardening efforts at http://20minutegarden.com and we have been very pleased with the features built into Cutline. We didn’t want a theme that required a lot of fiddling but then again we want eventually to make the site’s feel be a bit more unique and distinctive. We think Cutline will allow us that room to grow.

I use the latest version of Cutline for WordPress, with minimal alterations to the aesthetic despite various code adjustments and plugins to help enhance the site. My web site, Remote Sensing Tools, is my home-base, targeted toward other individuals interested primarily in the field of remote sensing / GIS, as well as technology that relates to graphics and production.

My need for a clean, and highly readable design eventually led me to Cutline — and WordPress. I believe I’ve found a comfortable marriage of the functionalities I was seeking, along with an aesthetic that was approachable as a personal space — and a theme that had substantial support.

  • 78 Bruce // Jun 5, 2007 at 11:29 am

A wonderful theme, but my site is no longer using it, so Keener Living blog should be removed from the showcase. I’m currently alternating between Blue Zinfandel and Copyblogger, and will likely settle in on BZ if I can figure out why I’m having trouble with YouTube videos on it when viewing with a Mac (Firefox or Safari). Probably has something to do with my plugin or something stupid I am doing, but it overlaps with the post in BZ while it doesn’t with CB. Odd.

I’ll work through those issues eventually, but should be removed from the showcase because no longer using Cutline (although I loved it … it is so hard to choose between good themes, isn’t it…)

Irene. You’re welcome. The only thing (that I know of) about the three-column version is that it doesn’t have the rotating header images. You’ll have to tweak your code to do that, but I think the instructions are on this cutline tubetorial.

The Cutline Theme is the best Wordpress theme for my needs. I’ve altered the look and feel of it quite a bit, but it’s still Cutline.

I must say that one grows tired of seeing standard Cutline plastered all over the web. Many of the sites that feature customized versions look great! So people, don’t be afraid to experiment and learn how to tweak Cutline to get the look you really want.

The best way to do that is view the source for the Cutline sites you like best, and notice the style.css and custom.css URLs, then download those files and examine them in a text editor. Very simple, really, if you give it a bit of concentration.

It would be useful to see a list of The 10 Most-Desired Cutline Changes, and how to effect them!

I didn’t list my blog because it’s not “work friendly,” but boy does it look fine with just a few hours of work! Great theme.

Please add my blog to the showcase. Thank you!

Cutline has been a great theme. I’m am having one small issue, and I’m sure it’s a setting that I need to update. On the posts, if you click on the post name or the comment it goes to the 404 error page. Do I need to change my post slug or permalinks for this to work properly?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi. I blog about my favorite tv show, Deadliest Catch. I’m pretty new to blogging. When I started my blog in March I really had no idea what I was doing so it’s been quite the journey. I would love to offer as much as possible in my sidebar for my readers, but I’d like it to look more organized. I think I would also like to use more color in both my sidebar and main blogging area, just dont know how. I’m at

I’m making the change from MT to WP and Cutline’s going to be my theme of choice. Doing the changeover in just over 24 hours, but I’ve been working on Cutline for the last week or so, getting the presentation sorted out.

    http://blog.trollhattansaab.net

The funny thing is, I have a three-column layout on MT (www.trollhattansaab.net) and had to think for a long while about changing to a two-column layout for Cutline. Now that I’m making the change there’s a 3-col Cutline available so I have to start thinking all over again!!

It’s been a great ride though and I’m looking forward to the flexibility of WP and the SEO properties of Cutline delivering a richer experience for everyone.

A disclaimer here - I was using Cutline for awhile, but then I found that I needed a different format in order to fit certain widgets with specific sizes on the page without it getting crowded. So I ended up switching over to Chris Pearson’s newer format, Copyblogger. I really miss Cutline’s header pix and cheerier appearance. Wouldn’t mind a new theme that combines the best features of both!
