As an example, here is my blog so far:
    http://www.DesignsByDayBreak.com/blog

When you click the entry heading/Permalink

    you are brought here:
    http://designsbydaybreak.com/blog/2007/12/29/welcome-to-designs-by-daybreak/

NOTICE... The entry *drops down* and is NOT lined up with the left and right sidebars.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. This is a feature. There is nothing to fix. The (in your case, empty) space above your post is dedicated to clickable previous or following posts. Since your blog only has one post thus far, there is nothing else to point to. Write a couple of test posts, and then click the title of the middle post, and you'll see what I mean.

    Thanks Mark:

I followed your directions and created another blog entry.

You are correct, the space is taken up, but I see something else that I am not sure how to fix.

    Go to:

    http://designsbydaybreak.com/blog/2007/12/29/welcome-to-designs-by-daybreak/

Notice on the top where is has the link to the first entry:
Part of the word *positioning* is missing.

How can I fix this? It would be good if the link could be moved to the *left* instead of the far right.

Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

  4. Looks good to me. And I looked at it with Fx2.0.0.11 and IE6. It reads <--Test Permalink Positioning...

    Dear Mark:

It works now because I had changed the sequence of the entries to have the Welcome Message first when I closed down last night - in case anyone wandered in. Sorry!

What I would like to see happen is that the link to the previous post ALWAYS be on the left.

It seems to rotate now from left to right.

    Example:
    http://designsbydaybreak.com/blog/2007/12/30/welcome-to-designs-by-daybreak/
NOTICE: above entry text link is to the left

    http://designsbydaybreak.com/blog/2007/12/30/test-permalink-positioning/
NOTICE: above entry text *is on the right* and CUT OFF

It says: Welcome to Designs by Day

It should say: Welcome to Designs By Daybreak

Can you tell me how I can *always* make the text link above the permalink entries on the left so that they are NOT cut off?

Thanks again Mark. I will not be doing any work on this until tonight sometime so this post will be accurate and you will see exactly what I describe here.

    Sorry I changed the sequence.

I am viewing in IE 6.x.

    Thanks.

  6. ok. I haven't tested this, so I suggest you make a backup of this file, in case something goes wrong: navigation.php

    1. Open navigation.php
    2. Lines 4 and 5 should read:
    <span class="previous"><?php previous_post_link('&larr; %link') ?></span>
    <span class="next"><?php next_post_link('%link &rarr;') ?></span>
    3. In line 4, change ('&larr; %link') to ('%link &rarr;')
    4. In line 5, change ('%link &rarr;') to ('&larr; %link')
    5. Save navigation.php and see what happens.
