I followed your instruction to modify the header.php file to make one of my own pages the "home page" and remove the default "front page"
however, I now have a duplicate page in the navigation title - so my question is,
how can I remove that tab? (the original "Frontpage" tab)

Did anyone answer you yet? I am trying to do the same thing. I have signed up for the premium support at the new forum, so you may want to check in there, if you haven't already had your question answered. You put it much more succinctly than I did in my post, so I'm going to copy and paste your question and borrow your wording.

Haven't been back here for a while and just noticed your post. The answer I'm afraid is no .. nobody answered me, so I've dropped the theme for something else...shame, I did really like it
