I am a painter. I would like my archives page to display thumbnails instead of blog copy. That is, when you click on September, up pops 30 thumbnails (six rows of 5 images each). Then you click on an image and the complete original post pops up. Anybody have any ideas? Here's a link to my page so you can see what I've got so far. http://blog.jimmylongacre.com/archives/
(Will want to take the archive links out of the sidebar)

  2. Ok well, it's easy to get thumbnails. Paste the thumbnail into that "optional excerpt" box when you're posting. Then that'll appear instead of text.

(you may also have to open your archive.php file and change the_content to the_excerpt. This is covered extensively at the wordpress codex)

However, as far as getting them to appear all in a grid like that, that'll take some css trickery for sure. You'd have to totally change the archive.php page, and edit the loop that displays the posts to have the post content (or excerpt) be wrapped in a div that is given a specific CSS class. You would then have to set it to float: left, and then make it have the proper width, margins, and all that.

I mean, it's doable but if you don't know CSS at all it's going to be pretty difficult. (unless there's some plug in out there, you can always look through the plug-ins at the wordpress site)

There are gallery plugins that would let each post display multiple thumbnails and the like, but if I read this properly you want each image to replace the title and content of your posts in the archives.

Speaking of which, you'd also have to delete the code that calls the post title in your archive.php file.

I hope this at least sets you in the right direction.

On a side note, your blog is very hard for me to read, and I would recommend lightening the background color, or making your body text contrast with the background color more so it's not so hard on the eyes. Like make it that light tan color you're using or white or something.

  4. Oh and if you want to ditch the archives in the sidebar check out your l sidebar.php file and just delete that part of it.

I'm guessing this is too outdated because I'm not getting these results on the airplane simulator page

I'm a little unsure as to what you mean by not getting the results on the airplane simulator page

A more emphasis on this topic is something that would help in research. Is it possible??

There are some more topics over internet about this, but i didn't got that much information from them. Thanks to you

Good luck getting people behind this one. Though you make some VERY fascinating points, youre going to have to do more than bring up a few things that may be different than what weve already heard. CNA
