you may also have to open your archive.php file and change the_content to the_excerpt. This is covered extensively at the wordpress codex.
On a side note, your blog is very hard for me to read, and I would recommend lightening the background color, or making your body text contrast with the background color more so it's not so hard on the eyes.
Then you click on an image and the complete original post pops up.

How do you set the page template?

Go to MANAGE > PAGES - click on the Archives page - then
You go all the way down and there it says "Page Template". It looks like a header to an empty section and you need to click it.

Well, I had to solve this one by myself, for anyone else who has the same problem I can tell you that after you create the Archives page you MUST set the Page template to Archives. You do that in the Archives page you just created and scroll down to the additional settings. Sorry, at this point I would attach an image but this forum does not have that feature so you just have to use your imagination.

Thanks for nothing :-(

Hi

I have read through the substantial material you have written on how to create the Archives link and make it work with permalinks.
OK, done that and I have a structure: [/%postname%-%post_id%.html]
But my Archives page is empty, there is only the usual comments stuff.

The page was created manually but I don't know how to resolve this problem. I couldn' find anything on the Cutline page.

Any help please :-)

According to those instructions, Archives and About pages are added by default. I find they are not and that the links to those pages don't work. If I create page with that name, and then edit header.php manually, then it works. Of course when creating the page, the Archives page require using the archive template. Even so it still needs to be manually added in header.php

Scratch this ... I didn't see the "write new page" explanation until just now.

When I did the "enable archives page" thing (the checkbox/update options) I went back to the Manage/Pages and there was no new page listed there with Archives in the title.

Possible cause: When I installed the theme, I already had a page named "archives" or something, I think ... I since deleted it because it wasn't displaying the way I wanted it to, and wanted to start over. I tried unchecking, saving and rechecking/saving the 'enable archives page' function, and still no archives page there.

I know there's an archive template in the theme someplace... just don't know how to enable it here. (the pages/templates stuff in wordpress has always confused me to no end...)

I am using the Dropdown Archives widget, but I doubt that this is the culprit, because I had the problem prior to activating this plugin. My 'archive_head' is stuck on January 2008. Incidentally, the archive entries are all correctly assigned to the respective month, even in the browser title. It's just that something isn't reading the 'archive_head' correctly.

Help! In my monthly archives page, no matter what month archive i am looking at, the page reads "Entries from December 2007" - which could either be telling me the current month, or it is stuck on December. I don't know.
See it here:

Hi Friends - I was having the same trouble with activating my Archives page as well - same story, followed ALL directions, trolled this website for help, and still nothing.

MY solution was that I didn't actually have a page in WordPress called "Archives" so: From Wordpress Admin -> Write -> Pages -> and then create a page called Archives, making sure to select archives as your template from the right side of the page.

Hope this helps. Changed my life for the better!

I'm using the Archives drop down menu widget and it automatically puts it flush up against the very edge of the sidebar.

Everything else in the sidebar, text, graphics, etc, can be easily centered using <center> text or graphic here </center> - but in the Archives widget there is no place to do that. Is there a way to center it in the theme editor?

Thanks.

"I solved it. You have to set archives template during editing page in admin."
This was the answer to my archives page problem!

In my installation of WordPress (v.2.3.1) I notice that the URLs all include "index.php". The Cutline URL for the Archives page follows the format of:
http://www.madeupblogname.com/archives/
but on my test site the Archives URL is actually at:
http://www.madeupblogname.com/index.php/archives/

It's late, I'm tired, and I've been trying to make the Archives and About pages work as repeatedly described on this site. However, that "index.php" seems to be absolutely required in the URL of every single page. From my point of view it just clutters up the URL. Is this something that can be changed? And is this the cause of some of the frustration many people are expressing?
